Linda Heffernan Lic.Ac. (EST 1984) is one of Ireland’s longest practicing acupuncturists and herbalists and practices in Galway and Loughrea.
Linda was a founding and honorary member of Ireland’s first acupuncture association and is currently a member of T.C.M.C.I, A.F.P.A. and I.R.C.H.M and is the director of the College of Integrative Acupuncture in Loughrea.
Linda has trained numerous acupuncturists all over the country and is now nearing her 40th year of practice
She commenced her studies at the Royal College of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire in 1979. She previously studied medicine in University College Cork and began practice in Galway in 1984. Linda established the college in Loughrea in 1996. The College offers a three year part time training course in acupuncture, commencing each year in October.
Linda has studied both systems of acupuncture, the classical 5 element (at the Royal College of Traditional Chinese Medicine UK with Prof. J.R Worsley) and the 8 principle acupuncture with Giovanni Maciocia in London. As a result of these combined studies, the constitutional type and the physical type can be differentiated; this knowledge helps the patient to improve their own health. Linda has gained immense clinical experience with over 30 years practice and teaching students in the college. She has attended seminars all over the world, is an avid reader of different acupuncture traditions and is currently writing an acupuncture text book.
Linda has studied Acupuncture and Chinese herbalism with renowned textbook writer Giovanni Maciocia. Linda has also studied with Professor J.R Worsley, Michael McIntyre, Effrem Korngold and Harriet Bienfield, Dr Ke, Dr Henry McCann, Dr Cai Song, Dr Mei Xing, Ted Kaptchuk, Julian Scott, Peter Deadman, Dr Yves Requena, Jeffrey Yuen and Dr Richard Tan. Linda has also studied the Japanese energy system Jin Shin Jyutsu with Philomena Dooley.
